The Association offers carers a wide range of individual advocacy services for carers and their families with the Office of Children, Youth and Family Support, with foster care agencies or with other agencies affecting them in their roles as foster or kinship carers eg Centrelink, Department of Housing.  Some keys areas where the Foster Care Association provides advocacy support are:

  • negotiating better outcomes for carers and carer families;

  • assisting carers where allegations are made; and

  • helping carers who wish to lodge formal and informal complaints.

 The important thing to remember as a carer in any of these difficult circumstances is that you are never alone.  The Association can provide a listening ear, advice, representation, negotiation assistance and, if necessary, referral to other specialist assistance eg legal advice, complaints bodies.
